Our Kathmandu Historical Tour begins from the spiritual and historical attraction inside the Kathmandu valley. On this day, we visit the two major landmarks listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites – Kathmandu Durbar Square/Basantapur and Swayambhunath Stupa (also known as the Monkey temple).
Kathmandu Durbar Square (Basantapur), the ancient palace of the Malla dynasty reflects the architectural textures carved in between the 12th and 18th centuries. The durbar showcases the stones and wooden sculptures, ornaments, and utilities used in the 18th era. Adding more historical diversity, the palace is surrounded by pagoda style temples, stone-paved courtyards, and Kumari Ghar (the palace of the living goddess.) The place is the living soul of the Kathmandu valley, as it is vibrant and attracts several participants during the chariot processions.
Our second destination for the day is Swayambhunath, which is on top of the hillock of Kathmandu. The stupa is the holiest place of the Buddhist religion and is surrounded by the shrines and temples crafted during the Lichhavi period. The aura of the stupa is truly religious, as we hear the soothing chants of mantras smell burning scented candles, which makes the entire environment religious and positive. In addition to the historical and cultural alliances, the place offers a scenic view of the entire Kathmandu valley. We spent a few hours, and return to the hotel, where welcome dinner is planned for the guests, to embrace the authentic Nepalese cuisine.
The city of fine arts, Patan is blessed with grace and beauty of historical pagoda temples, royal palaces, wood carving, museums, and courtyards (chowk). The place is lively throughout the day and is filled with local people, who are always eager to share the ancient stories related to Patan Durbar, Malla kings, and the construction of Patan palace.
No doubt the city is filled with medieval arts with several illustrations of colossal pagodas, sculpture and narrow streets. The city is the hub for both Hindu and Buddhist culture, filled with Newari culture and religious objects dated back to the 11th century.
We also visit Bhaktapur, another irresistible Newari culture influenced town. Bhaktapur too presents the authentic rich lifestyle, away from the bustling city of Kathmandu just 12km away. The sightseeing tour takes the visitors to the inner core of the municipal, making them understand their prospects behind the flourishing art and architectures. The place till today, preserves the ancient heritage sites, the traditional habitations of the people, spiritual dedication, old palaces (Bhaktapur Durbar Square & 55 windows palace), Nyatapola temples, National Art Gallery, Taleju temple, water sprouts, and the Golden Gate which merges together to provide a natural ambiance to the viewers.
From the busiest streets of Thamel, we move to Boudhanath, which is 7km away, the dome is listed as the largest stupa in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Surrounding the 5th-century stupa is the pleasant courtyard of souvenir shops selling Tibetan ornaments, foods, thankas, prayer wheels, and more. The area instantly releases spiritual vibes, as the Tibetan worshippers ritually walk around the stupa, by enchanting their divine mantras.
Moving ahead is Lord Shiva, Pashupatinath temple. Situated on the banks of the Bagmati river, the temple is the holy pilgrimage of the Hinduism community. Every year a large amount of devotees flock in to worship Lord Shiva. The temple along with the Aryaghat (Funeral Site) near the Bagmati River is the sacred place for the worshippers.
Our Kathmandu World Heritage- 3 days tour comes to an end. A representative from Best Adventure Travels shall take the explorers to the airport, three hours earlier before the flight schedule.
